Discover New Sounds with Samples – Creative Resampling Method
This method of sound creation is based on swapping samples within a previously built effect chain. First, you create an effect setup for a specific sample and process it through the chain. If the result sounds good, you can save it as a preset or sound set.
After that, try using other samples with the exact same effect settings. Simply swap in a new sample and see whether the chain creates something interesting. If it does – save it. If not – move on to the next one!
Make sure to experiment with different types of samples for each resampling chain you build. For example, if you’ve created a chain for a Reese bass, try running other Reese basses through it. You might find sounds that evolve into something entirely new or serve as an additional building block in a more complex bassline.
But don’t limit yourself—completely different samples like drums, pads, synths, or FX sounds can often produce unexpected and interesting textures. Sometimes, these happy accidents fit perfectly into your idea or even lead to entirely new sound concepts.
In the following before-and-after video, you’ll see a sketch demonstrating how differently the same effect chain can affect various samples. Even though the effect settings stay the same, the tone and texture can vary greatly depending on the source material—and that’s exactly what makes this method so exciting and versatile.
If you want to get more out of your sample library, this is a powerful and inspiring way to discover something new!
